Shining a light on Autism at Sydney Harbour

On the 2nd of April, UNIC Canberra joined Autism Awareness Australia in celebrating World Autism Awareness Day with a fireworks display over the Sydney Harbour symbolising the sky is the limit for people with autism.

Suitably attired in blue, as part of the international “light it up in blue”campaign, UNIC Canberra Director, Christopher Woodthorpe read the Secretary-General’s message.

“This year’s World Autism Awareness Day is a chance to celebrate the creative minds of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and to renew our pledge to help them realize their great potential,” said Mr Woodthorpe reading the Secretary-General’s message.

Autism Awareness Australia CEO, Nicole Rogerson spoke about how the international day and the annual event helps generate conversation about autism in Australia.

Federal politicians from both the government and the opposition also attended the event.
