International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust

Director of UNIC Canberra at the Sydney Jewish MuseumThe International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust was marked in Sydney with a moving ceremony at the Sydney Jewish Museum organised by the Australian Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants.  There was rapt attention as Olga Horak, one of the survivors present, gave an inspiring talk on the theme of the International Day, “Holocaust and Human Dignity” to the more than 200 people filling the auditorium.

The message of importance of preserving human dignity was pursued further in the personal reflections of the New South Wales Governor, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley, as well as through the Secretary-General’s message delivered by the UNIC Director.  The ceremony ended with Survivor Yvonne Englemann passing on the Legacy of Memory to her grandson.
