Speaking at the occasion, Director of UNIC Canberra Mr Christopher Woodthorpe, spoke of the important work UNRWA carries out on daily basis bringing education, saying that “UNRWA students’ literacy and levels of educational attainment are among the highest in the Middle East. The programme has also been committed to maintaining gender parity, a benchmark that was first achieved in the 1960s.”
Attendees also heard from the Dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors, the Ambassador of Tunisia, His Excellency Mr Nabil Lakhal, and His Excellency Izzat Salah Abdulhadi, the Head of the General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, Ambassador to New Zealand, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.
The evening concluded with a reception featuring traditional food and music.
