International Year of Soils logoThe 68th UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils (IYS) (A/RES/68/232). The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has been nominated to implement the IYS 2015, within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership and in collaboration with Governments and the secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies logo On 20 December 2013, The United Nations (UN) General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). This International Year has been the initiative of a large consortium of scientific bodies together with UNESCO, and will bring together many different stakeholders including scientific societies and unions, educational institutions, technology platforms, non-profit organizations and private sector partners.

MDGmomentum 100 Days of action

#MDGmomentum – On 5 April, the UN and partners worldwide observed the 1,000-day mark to the 2015 target date for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). We need to accelerate action on issues such as hunger, access to education, improved sanitation, maternal health and gender equality.

Zero Hunger Challenge – An initiative of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to end global hunger in our lifetime. Part of this initiative is also the Think. Eat. Save. campaign.
