Every year United Nation Information Centres around the world are given communications priorities which then focus their work through the year. On this page you will find a selection of the major focuses of UNIC Canberra for this year.

Time for Global Action 2015 logoThe Department of Public Information launched “2015: Time for Global Action”, the UN system-wide campaign that aims to build public support for the sustainable development agenda and show how the issues behind some of this year’s most important events are interconnected.

UN70 Anniversary LogoOn 24 October 2015, the United Nations will turn 70. The global celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations will aim to honour the historic breadth of the Organization’s development, security and human rights work, and ultimately, unite the international community in common cause to enable a strong UN to realize a better world.

International Year of Soils logoThe 68th UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils (IYS) (A/RES/68/232). The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has been nominated to implement the IYS 2015, within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership and in collaboration with Governments and the secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies logo On 20 December 2013, The United Nations (UN) General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). This International Year has been the initiative of a large consortium of scientific bodies together with UNESCO, and will bring together many different stakeholders including scientific societies and unions, educational institutions, technology platforms, non-profit organizations and private sector partners.

MY World Survey logo

MY World Global Survey for a better world –  is a global survey for citizens led by the United Nations and partners. It aims to capture people’s voices, priorities and views, so that global leaders can be informed as they begin the process of defining the new development agenda for the world.

MDGmomentum 100 Days of action

#MDGmomentum – On 5 April, the UN and partners worldwide observed the 1,000-day mark to the 2015 target date for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). We need to accelerate action on issues such as hunger, access to education, improved sanitation, maternal health and gender equality.

Zero Hunger Challenge – An initiative of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to end global hunger in our lifetime. Part of this initiative is also the Think. Eat. Save. campaign.
