World Population Prospects: 2015 Revision

The world’s population is projected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050 and exceed 11 billion in 2100, with India expected to surpass China as the most populous around seven years from now and Nigeria overtaking the United States to become the world’s third largest country around 35 years from now, according to a new United Nations report released today. ASEAN, in collaboration with FAO, prepares a road map of priority actions for the implementation of a nutrition component

Member countries of ASEAN have begun a two day consultation in collaboration with FAO to finalize a road map of priority actions for the implementation of a nutrition component for food security. The aim of the consultation is to firmly integrate nutrition into the ASEAN Integrated Food Security (AIFS) Framework and the Strategic Plan of Action on Food Security (SPA-FS). FAO has been assisting ASEAN with development and implementation of its AIFS and SPA-FS 2015 – 2020. Continue reading

World has exceeded the AIDS targets of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 6

The AIDS targets of MDG 6 – halting and reversing the spread of HIV – have been achieved and exceeded, according to a new report released today by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). New HIV infections have fallen by 35% and AIDS-related deaths by 41%. The global response to HIV has averted 30 million new HIV infections and nearly 8 million (7.8 million) AIDS-related deaths since 2000, when the MDGs were set. Continue reading
