Team UNICEF is a campaign built upon an understanding that play has the power to transform and improve the lives of children.

The Campaign harnesses the power of sport and Sport for Development (S4D) initiatives to promote social inclusion for children, benefiting the lives of the most excluded children around the world.

The Campaign was created because for many people around the world, sport and playtime are immediately and inextricably tied to the notion of what it means to be a child. Through play children explore, invent and create. They also develop social skills, learn to express their emotions, and gain confidence about their own capabilities. For many children, however, the chance to learn and grow through sport and play is unavailable, robbing them of some of the most important experiences of childhood.

Team UNICEF also showcases projects related to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Vamos Jogar (Lets Play), is an initiative led by UNICEF and promoted by the City of Rio de Janeiro fostering the right to safe and inclusive sports, recreation and play for all children and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Proteja Brasil (Protect Brazil) is an application for smartphones and tablets created to enable reports of violence against children and adolescents.
