Asia-Pacific Outlook Highlighted At Global UN Forums On 2030 Agenda in New York

On Monday 18 May, ESCAP and the Republic of Korea will hold a high-level panel discussion on ‘Financing for Development to Ensure No One is Left Behind,’ chaired by United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCAP Executive Secretary Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the UN Mr. Oh Joon. The event will feature a discussion with ministers, private sector and civil society representatives on innovative financing sources, modalities and regional priorities for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

ESCAP will hold a second side event on Tuesday 19 July, in partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka on ‘Planning for an Inclusive Transformation.’ As recently appointed Chair of the Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development, Sri Lanka will bring United Nations agencies and stakeholders together for a high-level panel discussion to be opened by Dr. Akhtar and hosted by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN Dr. Rohan Perera.

On Thursday 21 July, ESCAP will hold a third side event at the DCF in partnership the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries (OHRLLS). The high level panel on ‘Adaptation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the role of development cooperation in Asia and the Pacific’ will review the importance of adapting national actions for achieving sustainable development. The event will be moderated by Dr. Akhtar and chaired by Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya, UN Under- Secretary-General of OHRLLS.

In addition, ESCAP will take in part several high-level dialogues at the HLPF including a side event on the ‘Data Revolution’ organized by the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, and a Ministerial Panel on the ‘Challenges of countries in special situations.’
