Regional Representative of UNHCR and Officer In charge of UNIC, Louise Aubin, attended and laid a wreath at the Australian Peace-Keeping Memorial commemorating the 73rd Anniversary of Australia’s involvement in Peacekeeping.
Commissioner Georgina Whelan, AM, CSC and Bar, Commissioner at ACT Emergency Services Agency, the key speaker for the day delivered her message on global solidarity, the noble purpose of peacebuilding, the fragility of mental health for those on the frontlines and the value of multilateralism.
Wreaths were laid in remembrance of all peacekeepers, honorary memberships to the Australian Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Veterans’ Association were presented and a minute’s silence was observed. It was a glorious day to remember the roles of Australian Peacekeepers-military, police and civilians- in the service of International peace and security.
The event was well-attended by various members of the Australian Peacekeeper & Peacemaker Veterans’ Association, Australian Federal police ceremonial and protocol, UN Overseas Policing association of Australia, the United Nations Association of Australia and Government officials, all while maintaining safe distancing and COVID safe regulations.
