UN Human Rights Office announces winners of children’s poster competition

The UN Human Rights Office has today announced the two winners of a poster contest for children to illustrate what freedom means to them. The competition is part of a year-long campaign by the Office to mark the 50th anniversary of two core human rights treaties, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. 2015 Human Rights Day poster competition

The International Bill of Human Rights (PDF), which consists of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the two Covenants, was drafted as “a common standard of achievement for all peoples and nations.” It was the first time in human history that a document spelled out the basic civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights that all humans should enjoy.
